Walnut Creeks falls to San Luis Obispo in third consecutive game
Now 18-8, the Crawdads look to bounce back after a winless road trip
For the third game in a row, Walnut Creek lost, moving to 18-8 after a 14-3 defeat against San Luis Obispo.
Going into Friday's game, the Crawdads lost two games against Arroyo Seco.
As the game opened, the Blues took a lead that they held for the rest of the game.
Despite the rough result, the Crawdads had some positives.
Sophomore pitcher Paul Wheeler went 1.2 innings allowing just one hit and striking out four batters. After Friday night, Wheeler has thrown 12.1 innings with a .73 WHIP, tallying 19 strikeouts.
Juniors Alijah Ramos and Daniel Polasek also highlighted positives for Walnut Creek. The pair both picked up multiple hits and an RBI, with Polasek going three-for-four.
With the three-game road trip to southern California in the rearview, Crawdad coach Brant Cummings highlighted some of the biggest takeaways from Friday's loss.
"They didn't play very well in a lot of areas," Cummings said. "That was disappointing. But we still have good players, and the takeaway from this is it's over and we will play better. You'll see a different team here come Sunday and going into next week."
Up next for Walnut Creek is a Sunday matchup against Alameda after a rest day on Saturday.
Now 1-4 in their last five, the Crawdads have an opportunity to turn around their fate. After the game, the coaching staff reminded the team what happened the last time they lost three games in a row.
"Coach Cheyne actually did most of the talking," Cummings said. "He said, 'remember what happened the last time we dropped three in a row? We ran off 13 straight. Now don't expect to do that, but understand you have the ability to put an end to this."
