Walnut Creek falls to Arroyo Seco on back-to-back days
The Crawdads moved to 18-7 after losing 8-5
For the second game in a row, Walnut Creek fell to Arroyo Seco, moving to 18-7 in 2026.
After a closely fought game, a seventh inning rally from the Saints saw the Crawdads lose 8-5.
Walnut Creek struck first Thursday night with a four-run third inning.
After junior outfielder Daniel Polasek drove in the first run of the game, senior first baseman Kam Taylor had a bases-clearing single, with crafty baserunning seeing three runners score, but Taylor get out.
However, the Saints tied it up in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs.
After both teams scored one run in the fifth inning, the game stayed close.
Out of the bullpen, senior Kody Perry had a strong outing to keep the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing just three batters, Perry struck out two and got the third to pop out.
Allowing a .25 WHIP in four innings as a Crawdad in 2026, Perry is happy with the impact his outing has on the rest of his season.
"It feels good," Perry said. "It's just trying to sharpen what I already know how to do. Try and set the tone. Try to work quick and set my pace on hitters."
After Arroyo Seco scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Crawdads were unable to take the lead back, falling in both games against the Saints.
Now, Walnut Creek looks ahead to a matchup on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at San Luis Obispo. Hoping to pick up a much-needed win during the road trip, Walnut Creek coach Brant Cummings told his team what needs to change.
"The message tonight was that they have to play with a bit more focus and a bit more effort and they'll have a chance to win a baseball game tomorrow," Cummings said. There are a few effort things that ultimately led us to losing. Effort and execution; those are controllable."
One player hoping to continue good form is Kam Taylor, who tallied two hits and two RBIs on Thursday.
With a very important game set for Friday, his mindset to get a victory is simple.
"Win," Taylor said. "Straight coming for their throats. Simple as that."
